the law and you

The Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 state that anyone who sells  or processes food is legally bound to make sure that they carry out their operations safely and hygienically. The Law also says that you must…….

  • Identify all steps which are critical to food safety.
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place, maintained and reviewed

All types of catering businesses are included in the regulations, from a hot dog van to a five star hotel, from a village hall to a nursing home. You are included even if you are a charity and give the food away !

Do not be caught out, it can be expensive……..A recently circulated information sheet produced by a large Environmental Health Department in South Yorkshire stated……

"the honeymoon is over for high risk food premises…  EHO's are now likely to serve  legal notice to enforce these requirements….the first prosecution last year led to a  fine of £2,250"
